Elected officials are a gift. Democracy is a gift. Freedom is a gift. Our forefathers fought and died so we can have these gifts.
We’re not always going to agree and as I’ve said before, that’s ok. What a boring world it would be if we were all exactly the same. However, just because we don’t agree doesn’t mean we should slander each other all over social media.
Our elected officials are under constant scrutiny and opponents are waiting to pounce at the first misstep. We need to remember that our leaders are still humans with families, hopes, dreams, fears, and shortcomings. Let’s try to keep that in mind the next time we decide to retaliate with hurtful words instead of facts, questions, and suggestions, even if our leaders don’t always follow this advice.
Remember, at the end of the day, there’s really only one chief anyway and one of His apostles told us to avoid arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.
Stay informed and involved but be smart, helpful, and kind. Let’s seek first to understand. Run for office if you have better answers. We’re all in this together.
